DramMaster.academy
The whisky school nobody had built.
Why it exists
I love whisky and wanted to properly know it — not just drink it. But when I went looking for a way to learn, everything fell into two camps. Brand-owned training that only covered that company’s products and quietly funnelled you towards their bottles. Or serious ambassador-level courses that were gated, expensive, and aimed at trade professionals.
There was nothing that took you from novice to ambassador level in one place. Nothing that covered all the distilleries and expressions without a commercial agenda. So I built the resource I wanted to exist — and made it free, because the gap annoyed me that much.
What it is
A complete whisky education platform:
- 130+ structured lessons across three tiers — novice to enthusiast, enthusiast to connoisseur, connoisseur to expert — with audio versions for learning on the move.
- A knowledge base with no brand agenda: 344 distilleries and 1,834 expressions, with real production detail — still shapes, condensers, fermentation times — all searchable and cross-linked.
- Study tools that make it stick: 1,500+ quiz questions, 1,541 spaced-repetition flashcards, a tasting journal, and an interactive map of Scotland’s distilleries.
- Isla, an AI whisky mentor — locked to a whisky knowledge base so she can’t wander off-topic or invent facts. She quizzes you, explains production chemistry, and coaches blind-tasting method. Premium, £4.99/month; everything else is free.
- A route to real credentials: the expert tier maps directly to the BIIAB Whisky Ambassador certification.
How it was built
DramMaster was my first serious test of autonomous AI delivery. I’d previously spent months hand-cranking a Notion whisky database with n8n pipelines and got to 15 distilleries before the effort collapsed. With a proper PRD and an agentic loop running overnight, the full platform took 13 sprints across 15 evenings — security, auth, database, APIs, quiz engine, flashcards, lessons, map and mentor.
What it proves
That one person with product discipline and an agent team can ship what would previously have needed a funded startup: a real learning product with guardrailed AI, not a demo.
